A fast-paced decade trivia game
If a relaxed quiz isn't enough of a challenge, this is the game for you. The decade trivia game gives you timed questions from the era you choose, with extra points for answering quickly and bonus points for keeping a streak going. Your best score is saved on your device, so you always have something to beat.
It's free, it works in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer, and there's nothing to download or sign up for.
How scoring works
Each question has a countdown. Answer correctly and you score points, and the faster you answer, the more you get. Get several right in a row and your streak builds up, adding a bonus on top. A wrong answer or running out of time resets your streak, so it pays to be quick but careful.
At the end of the round you'll see how many you got right, your best streak and your total score. If it's a new best, it's saved for next time.
Tips to get a higher score
Start with the decade you know best to get used to the timer. Read the whole question before you look at the answers. Many questions hinge on one word. If you're unsure, rule out the answers you know are wrong first; guessing between two is better than guessing between four. Don't panic when the timer gets low. A slow right answer still scores, but a rushed wrong one breaks your streak.
Play the same decade a few times. You'll start to recognise the questions, and your speed will improve.
Play it with friends and family
The game is great for a bit of friendly competition. Take turns on the same device and compare scores, or each play on your own phone and see who tops the table. It works well at birthday parties, especially milestone birthdays where the guest of honour can pick the decade they grew up in, and at Christmas when the whole family is together and looking for something to do after dinner.
Teachers and youth group leaders can also use it as a quick history warm-up. It's a fun way to show how much the world has changed from one decade to the next.
Set up a trivia tournament
For a bigger group, run a simple tournament. Everyone plays the same decade once and writes down their score. The top scorers go through to a final round on a different decade, and the highest score in the final wins. Because the questions are timed, it's fair for everyone and moves quickly, so even a large group can finish in under an hour.
You can also play it decade by decade over a week. Pick a new era each evening, keep track of your best scores, and see which decade you're strongest in by the end. It's a great way to learn a bit of history while you play.
For an extra challenge, try a decade you know nothing about and see how far good guessing can get you.
