Hosting a quiz night shouldn't mean hours of writing questions. This free quiz round builder lets you choose the rounds you want, pick how many questions go in each one and print a ready-made quiz with an answer sheet. It's perfect for pub quizzes, family quiz nights, birthday parties, work socials, school fundraisers and Christmas.

How to use the quiz builder

Select the rounds you'd like to include. Mix general knowledge with themed rounds to suit your crowd. Choose the number of questions per round; ten is a good standard, and five works well for a shorter quiz or younger players. The builder pulls together your questions and creates a question sheet plus a separate answer key for the quizmaster.

Not happy with a question? Build again for a fresh mix. When you're happy, hit print.

Tips for running a great quiz night

Keep it to four to six rounds. That's usually enough for a fun evening without people losing interest. Put teams of three to six together so everyone gets involved. Read each question twice, clearly, and give a set amount of time before moving on. Swap answer sheets between teams for marking. It keeps things fair and adds a bit of banter. Announce the scores after every round or two to keep the competition alive.

Add a picture round or a music round if you can, as they're often the most popular. And always have a tie-breaker question ready, ideally one with a number for an answer so the closest team wins.

Quiz ideas for different occasions

Birthday parties: include a round about the birthday person, like their favourite film or where they went on holiday, alongside general knowledge.

Christmas: festive films, songs and food make easy themed rounds, and a quiz is a great alternative to the telly on Boxing Day.

Work socials: keep the questions broad so everyone has a chance, whatever their age or background.

Fundraisers: charge a small entry fee per team and offer a simple prize. A printed quiz makes running the night easy.

Choosing the right rounds

The secret to a great quiz is balance. Start with an easy general knowledge round so every team gets some points on the board and feels confident. Follow it with a themed round, like music, films, sport or history, then mix in something lighter. Save the hardest round for the middle of the quiz rather than the end, so the final rounds stay close and exciting.

Think about who is coming. A family quiz needs questions children can answer, while a pub quiz crowd will enjoy a tougher challenge. If your group has a mix of ages, include rounds from different decades so everyone has their moment to shine. The builder makes it easy to try different combinations until the quiz feels right.
